In the workshop of a construction waste recycling yard, the crusher roars as it crushes concrete blocks into aggregates, and the conveyor belt carries gravel shuttling back and forth. The raised dust is like an invisible “smoke bomb”, which not only adheres to the surface of the equipment to accelerate wear but also makes the operators smell the choking earthy smell even behind their masks. Traditional sprinkling for dust reduction not only makes the ground muddy but also causes the aggregate moisture content to exceed the standard, affecting sales. However, the emergence of the mist cannon machine, with its precise and efficient dust reduction ability, is building a clean barrier for such special scenarios.
The dust in construction waste recycling yards has its uniqueness: the dust particles at the outlet of the crusher are heavy and spread quickly; the dust at the transfer point of the conveyor belt rises with the air flow, easily forming a “dust belt”; and the dust accumulated on the top of the workshop will “fall” periodically under the influence of vibration. A construction waste recycling yard in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, once fell into trouble due to dust problems. In the 2,000-square-meter workshop, the crusher processed 500 tons of construction waste every day, and the PM10 concentration often exceeded 800μg/m³, far exceeding the national limit of 4mg/m³. Operators had to replace their dust masks three times a month, and the equipment maintenance frequency was 40% higher than that of similar enterprises. What was more troublesome was that there were constant complaints from surrounding residents, and the environmental protection department conducted many inspections.
At the beginning of last year, the yard introduced 4 fixed mist cannon machines to build a dust reduction system: one was installed above each of the two crushers, with the spray angle inclined downward by 30 degrees to aim at the discharge port; one was installed on each side of the conveyor belt, spraying horizontally to form a cross fog curtain. During operation, the mist cannon machine is linked with the equipment start-up – the corresponding mist cannon machine is automatically turned on at the moment the crusher operates, avoiding invalid energy consumption.
Three months later, the environment of the factory area changed qualitatively: third-party testing showed that the PM10 concentration in the workshop was stable below 1.2mg/m³, meeting the health standards for indoor workplaces. Operators reported that even after long hours of work, the inner side of the mask was no longer covered with dust stains, and breathing became much smoother. The dust accumulation on the surface of the equipment was reduced, and the maintenance cycle was extended from 1 month to 3 months. The number of complaints from surrounding residents dropped to zero, and the environmental protection department gave the evaluation of “dust control demonstration unit” during the re-inspection. Most surprisingly, the aggregate moisture content only increased by 0.3%, which fully met the acceptance standards of the building materials market.
The value of the mist cannon machine in construction waste recycling yards is far more than improving air quality. The ground mud caused by traditional sprinkling once caused the forklift in the recycling yard to slip and fail 2-3 times a month. After the introduction of the mist cannon machine, the ground remained dry and clean, and no similar accidents occurred throughout the year.
In terms of energy consumption costs, the yard made a comparison: originally, 6 trips of sprinklers were needed every day, consuming about 20 tons of water; while 4 mist cannon machines running all day only needed 8 tons of water, and the total electricity fee did not exceed 30 yuan. More importantly, the aggregate with standard moisture content increased by 15 yuan per ton. Calculated by processing 15,000 tons per month, the additional income of 225,000 yuan is enough to cover the equipment investment cost.

By setting the dust reduction time and fog volume in different areas, unattended automatic operation can be realized. The background can also check the working status and water consumption of each equipment in real time, avoiding the omissions of traditional manual inspection.
